IELTS Academic Writing Task 2 Essay: Animal Testing (To what extent do you agree or disagree)

Writing task 2 Sample Essay:

ANIMAL TESTING

Some people think that scientists experimenting with animals in a laboratory is the only way we can guarantee new products will be safe for human use. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Sample essay:

Safety is always the priority of companies when promoting new products. As such, laboratory testing of these products with animals has become a practice that most people believe is a must. This practice, however, is something that I think should be controlled and limited. This essay will focus on both my disagreement and agreement to this issue.

In the modern world, competition is tough. Big businesses around the world compete against each other. Each of them promising a safe and secure product for human consumption by experimenting on animals. Industries like cosmetics and apparels are known to use this experimentation. Although humans are considered as the highest animal species, this does not give humans the right to utilize animals in laboratory experimentations. This is considered to be animal cruelty. As humans, our role is to protect each and every living being in the world. People should make use of their intellect to look for other ways to guarantee product safety.

On the other hand, I believe animal testing is a more acceptable practice when it comes to products related to medicine. Recently, more and more advancements in technology can be seen and experienced. We now have the luxury to improve and maintain a good health due to these advancements. These revolutionary treatments were made possible through animal testing. Of course, it is more agreeable to use animals rather than humans as mediums for such medicines. It may be still considered as animal cruelty, however, in this case, we must choose the lesser evil.

In conclusion, animal testing for new products is only acceptable up to some points. It should be limited and controlled and I do not think it can be stopped unless we find other ways and/or mediums.

On the other hand, a different trend can be noted in the countries Italy and Portugal where the emissions slowly rose from an initial rate of approximately 4 and 1 metric ton to about 7 and 6 metric tonnes in 4 decades. In Sweden, emissions increased to its record highest in 1977 w...
