My IELTS experience

Most people take the IELTS test either because they want to migrate to another country or maybe because they plan to study in a university abroad. My case was different. I have been working in an International Language School in Tarlac for 6 years now. Our company, to keep up with the growing competition, decided to start a new course. As with other language institutions, our school has been offering a range of English classes like Business English, Conversation English and of course, Academic English (TOEIC). Fortunately for me, I was a member of a team that handles or specializes in TOEIC tests. I was once a teacher of TOEIC Speaking, Reading and Listening to both Japanese and Korean  nationals. I say this in the past tense because a long time ago, TOEIC was the only Academic test that these nationalities deem important. Right now, more and more people are becoming interested in working abroad and maybe living outside their home country.

Since our company was new to this kind of Academic English course (IELTS), we tried to think about how we can attract customers to study and apply in our school. We did some research and tried to check other school's curriculum (through the internet and their advertisements) to see what they lack. And boom! We saw that most schools do not actually advertise their teachers' qualifications and capabilities. And so the idea that all IELTS instructors in our company should have at least training on how to answer the IELTS test and how to teach the IELTS test. We had both and I tell you, it was not easy. After these enhancement practices, we were given the chance to take the official test. Of course, we were given the right to choose when and where we want to take the test. So, we signed up for the test. I applied in IDP and took the test in Baguio City, Philippines.


After months of self-study and group discussions with my co-workers, I was able to attain our goal band score. I felt a huge sense of achievement and pride when I saw my official test result online. All the practices and reading preparation I did was all worth it. Now, I am officially the Team Leader of the IELTS group in our school. I have become immersed in improving my test-taking abilities in IELTS. I also enjoy imparting my knowledge to students who are aiming to change their lives for the better. Yes, I know it's cheesy but I have no better way to describe it. Anyway, I'm planning to retake the official test again this year since it has been almost 2 years ago when I took IELTS. This time, my objective is to get higher band scores
in my writing and speaking tests.

Sample report:   The line graph depicts the yearly proportion of visitors to a certain island in The Caribbean from 2010 to 2017. In general, the number of guests multiplied in seven years.   In 2010, there were a million travelers who went to the island. This total rose consistently over the years until 2015 and 2016 where it stayed at less than 3 million. However, in the last year, 2017, the number shot up to 3.5 million people.   From the graph, there were more vacationers staying on the island during most of the years. In the first two years, there were fewer than a million guests on the island before slowly increasing to one and a half million in 2013. Cambridge 15: Academic IELTS Writing Test 4: Task 1 (Pie Chart and Table)

The pie chart illustrates the percentage of what Anthropology graduates from one university did after their graduation. The table reveals the earned income they make after 5 years’ work according to three kinds of employment. Overall, in the first graph, most of the graduates worked fulltime after finishing university while the table shows that those who rendered work for 5 years earn a different range in payment in various work sectors.   According to the pie chart, among the six destinations provided, a little over half of the alumni went straight on to working fulltime.
