Cambridge 15: Academic IELTS Writing Test 4: Task 2 (Discuss 2 views + Opinion)

Sample essay:

Adults spend most of their time at work. From this, preferences as to how long a person must stay in a company have been debated. On the one hand, there are those who opt to work in one company all their lives. On the other, some think that offering their services to various companies is more beneficial. The content of this essay will focus on discussing these two viewpoints and the opinion of the writer.

Being loyal to an organization has some advantages. Perhaps the biggest one is the assurance of stability. Having to work in one company for a long time offers the employee a steady means of financial support. Another merit to be considered is professional growth. An employee may start small in the beginning but after a few years of work, the employee can gain skills and experiences necessary to advance professionally. In addition, many companies provide workshops and training to deserving workers. However, staying in one workplace has a demerit such as stagnation. This work style may seem boring and unfulfilling and for these reasons, workers choose to venture to another path.

Working for different organizations is the trend for many. For them, having the chance to try out the working conditions in various industries helps them grow more interpersonally. They learn to communicate with different kinds of people, and they learn new skills that cannot be acquired when you work in only one kind of field. Nevertheless, there are downsides to this. When a worker transfers from one company to another that also differ in field, they constantly need to restart and relearn something. Although their ability to adapt to many situations is their strengths, they may find it hard to pinpoint a specific specialization. Moreover, they might not have the chance to be promoted since managers might doubt their loyalty towards their company.

Considering the discussions above, it is easy to conclude that there is no better work style. Both have pros and cons that must be considered. A person may choose to work in one company all his life or opt for a different style. The most essential point is that an employee must enjoy his work no matter where and what they do.
