Cambridge 13: Academic Writing Test 4: Task 1

Sample report: The visual data represents the generation and use of electricity of ten countries in 2014. Overall, the electrical production slightly exceeded the consumption in all countries except Germany. The top countries that manufactured electricity the most were China, the United States, and Russia. China registered an electricity generation of almost 5,400 (billion kWh). A rate that is two times bigger than Russia and a thousand kWh more than America. The lowest electricity production was in the Republic of Korea with just 485.1 billion kWh. As for electrical consumption, the top countries were the same. The rate gaps of the production and use were all minimal. Moreover, the country with the lowest electricity utilization was also the Republic of Korea. It should be highlighted though that one country, Germany, showed a different graph. Among all ten countries, this nation consumed more electricity that its production. The production was about 530 billion ...

Cambridge 13 Academic Writing test 4 Task 2

Sample essay: The study of History has been recently a subject of debate by most people. Some say that it must be taught in schools while others believe that other subject matters, especially Science and Technology, are more important. This essay will explain a few reasons why both subjects are necessary and why weighing the relevance of either is not considerable. The goal of most fields now is to make lives easier and better. This is the number one explanation as to why most people say that studying subject matters related to Science and Technology is more fruitful. Politicians, media personalities, and many others have imprinted in the minds of individuals the effect and pleasures of having modern lives. Also, work-related opportunities connected to these fields have enticed many people to choose this career path. As a result, students applying in these fields have been increasing to all new heights. Although true, it does not necessarily conclude that learning Histo...

Cambridge 13 (Academic IELTS) Writing test 2: Task 2

Sample essay: The promise of living better lives by providing myriads of choices that are tailored according to our preferences has been a trend recently. Convenience is the goal of every breakthrough and new invention. This essay will point out why choices people have nowadays are plentiful. At present, when we think about having a lot of options, the best example to mention is material things. More and more gadgets, or things related to technology, are becoming accessible and somehow affordable. Almost all people own a piece of technology, like smartphones, regardless of their age, gender, and status. Now and then, well-known brands release a new smartphone model. Consumers are hooked on buying the newest phone that sometimes they cannot decide which one to purchase. When it comes to intangible things though, possibilities also seem endless. For instance, education. Alternatives such as distance learning and vocational training are becoming popular. Full-time worke...

Cambridge 13 (Academic IELTS) Writing test 2: Task 1

Sample: The visual represents the proportion of houses in England and Wales that are owned and leased from 1918 to 2011. Overall, it can be seen that these two categories consistently showed opposing trends. In 1918, a huge gap between rented houses and owned houses is noted. More than two-thirds of households were rented during this year. This gap can be noticeable until 1961. Although it should be mentioned that even though there were more houses that were rented during these years, a decrease in percentage can also be seen. A drop of almost ten percent was reported as time went by. Owned houses, however, increased in rate from about 22% in 1918 to 50% in 1971. The growth was consistent until it reached its peak in 2001 at almost 70%. As with the first data, the rise of the rate was almost parallel to the rate of the decline of rented houses in England and Wales over the years. The differences between the proportion of owned and leased houses during the...

Cambridge 13: Test 3 (SPEAKING)

It has been a long time since I posted here. I was busy doing other stuff that I did not have enough time to do some practices. However, now I can concentrate on practicing again. Anyway, here's the third installation of the 13th Cambridge IELTS textbook. Maybe some of you already have a copy of this since I have been seeing a lot of pdf copies of this new book on the internet lately. But for those of you who do not have access to this pdf, here it is. You can check my other posts for some of the other test questions from this book, too. Well, if you look at the questions well, the first part is already a bit challenging to answer since it is considered somewhat a "taboo" to talk about money. On the other hand, we must also consider that the questions do not entirely ask about how you manage your money. Anyway, good luck! Again, I do recommend that you practice every day as much as possible and do try to ask someone's assistance. You need another person to tel...

Cambridge 13: Test 2 (Speaking)

Some questions here are tough to answer as it requires you to look back on your childhood. Also, part 3 questions are about issues we tackle every day. Practice your speaking skills by recording your responses. Have fun speaking English!

Cambridge 13: Test 1 (Speaking Part 1 sample answers)

Sample responses: Question 1: I mostly do a  lot of TV-watching at home since we just purchased a new television a couple a weeks ago, and I also prefer doing this activity with my family members on the weekends. Question 2: I'm a huge fan of classic TV shows like "Friends" and "House M.D." If I'm in a light mood and I just want to relax and laugh, I watch "Friends" but when I feel "academic"  or maybe I just want to feel mysterious and stuff like that, I watch the medical drama "House M.D." Question 3: I was never interested in reality TV shows. I think these shows are purely a waste of time and I don't really see why people think it's interesting to see how other people live their lives. It's just too strange for me. Question 4: Well, my kids are so into watching a lot of TV shows and movies so I might be doing a lot of watching with them as long as I can find the time to spend with them, so I think...
