This is the number one explanation as to why most people say that studying subject matters related to Science and Technology is more fruitful. Sample essay: The promise of living better lives by providing myriads of choices that are tailored according to our preferences has been a trend recently. Convenience is the goal of every breakthrough and new invention. This essay will point out why choices people have nowadays are plentiful. At present, when we think about having a lot of options, the best example to mention is material things. More and more gadgets, or things related to technology, are becoming accessible and somehow affordable. Almost all people own a piece of technology, like smartphones, regardless of their age, gender, and status. Now and then, well-known brands release a new smartphone model. Cambridge 13 (Academic IELTS) Writing test 2: Task 1

Sample: The visual represents the proportion of houses in England and Wales that are owned and leased from 1918 to 2011. Overall, it can be seen that these two categories consistently showed opposing trends. In 1918, a huge gap between rented houses and owned houses is noted. More than two-thirds of households were rented during this year. This gap can be noticeable until 1961. Although it should be mentioned that even though there were more houses that were rented during these years, a decrease in percentage can also be seen. A drop of almost ten percent was reported as time went by. Owned houses, however, increased in rate from about 22% in 1918 to 50% in 1971. The growth was consistent until it reached its peak in 2001 at almost 70%. As with the first data, the rise of the rate was almost parallel to the rate of the decline of rented houses in England and Wales over the years. The differences between the proportion of owned and leased houses during the...

Cambridge 13 (Academic IELTS) Writing Test 1: Task 2

Sample essay: Many people from different walks of life are opting to reside in foreign countries for various reasons. This, however, often results to issues that are inevitable but are not severe. What kinds of problems arise when immigrating to another country? Perhaps one of the biggest barrier to be considered is language. Adapting to the culture of an unknown country is challenging when an immigrant does not have enough abilities to communicate with locals. As a result, newcomers are limited to using simple words and gestures. This can be a frustrating daily routine. Immigrants then have no other choice but to learn a new language. Although, it is important to point out that this is a foreseeable dilemma that can be addressed and therefore is not considered severe.   Another issue related to migration is adaptation. Ideally, people prefer to mingle with those they easily identify with. That is, we create a small community that follows and accepts the same beli...

Bar Chart Sample (The Number of men and women in further education in Britain)

Sample: The visual data illustrates the population of British males and females pursuing graduate studies full time and part time in three school years. From the graph, it can be seen that there are more people who pursue further education partly and between genders, more men enroll in graduate schools. Looking at the data, a growth in the number of full time students in both genders can be noted. It is important to highlight though that more women showed interest in regular graduate studies from 1980/81 and 1990/91. However, in the year 1990/91, the quantity of male students was on the same level as women at roughly 200 thousands. As for irregular students, different trends can be seen for both genders. For men, a downward line can be noted. In 1970/71, an approximate 1000 men attended graduate studies before it descended value to a little over 800 in 1980/81 and 1990/91. On the other hand, women climbed from an estimated 700 thousands in the first year to 1200 in th...

Some people believe it would be better for the environment and the economy if people only consumed food produced by local farmers. Would the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? Sample essay: The demand for food is always high. Many agricultural goods are shipped to far areas to help meet this demand. Organise your thoughts quickly!

When sitting for an English speaking test, candidates often expect to respond to general questions or questions that are commonly asked in every day situation such as hobbies, job, education, and so on. However, almost all of them still find it hard to organise their thoughts properly because of many factors. Luckily, there are some patterns that I can suggest to help you express yourself in a coherent way. One of them is the "KISS" pattern. It stands for "Keep It Short and Simple" . This pattern can help you mention your idea directly. The only downside for this pattern is that it only provides a brief and somewhat vague explanation of what you really think. For those who are still beginning to improve on their grammar and vocabulary, this pattern is a useful guide for you. Another is the PREP pattern that stands for "Point, Reason, Example/Experience, Point" . This guide helps you provide a more-detailed explanation of your viewpoint. This can be ...

Writing an introduction (Academic IELTS Task 2)

Writing an essay is a challenge for both experienced and inexperienced writers. One reason is paragraphing. Most test takers know the basics of the task and they know what to expect. What they usually don't know how to figure out is how to start the essay. In my experience, I have often recommended my students to understand the different words and/phrases often used in the test. Furthermore, I ask them to broaden their knowledge on myriads of topics by reading a lot, watching news, and even by discussing them with other people. Well, that's just the "input" process.  Next, they are tasked to write down their ideas on the topic within a time limit to help them develop their critical thinking and decision-making skills. The catch is to ask them to write as honestly as possible and to stick with what they already now. That is easier said than done because most of my students concentrate too much on making an "impact". That is, they want to write somethi...

Cambridge 14: Writing test 4 Task 2 (Sample)

Sample essay: The advent of technology has made it possible for most workers to opt to work as freelancers than to be employed in a company or organization. This essay will discuss the reasons for this growing trend and its possible disadvantages. More and more working individuals are getting attracted to work for themselves due to one big reason – convenience. Self-employment offers benefits like flexible working hours, reduced risk for burnout from shorter working time, and of course, fast and high payment. Freelancers, depending on their skills and experience, can demand for a certain wage per work to their customers. Moreover, due to the nature of their job, tasks can be done quickly and easily. This is one reason why some companies nowadays prefer hiring freelance workers. Although the benefits of this work seem to be endless, this type of work also has drawbacks. One is the uncertainty of work availability. Since many young professionals prefer to work on their ...

Now, new facilities were added and some of the old features, like the glasshouse, were completely removed. The pond was replaced with a dedicated children’s play area and a cafĂ© right beside it. It is importa...
