A life with limited choices seems attractive to some people
because it reduces confusion. This way of thinking is also believed by many
when it comes to languages. As more and more people learn another language,
several languages are on the verge of extinction. This essay will discuss the
writer’s opinion on why it is certainly wrong to think that having fewer
languages can make life less complicated.
The idea of globalization has made learning languages
popular in these modern times. For now, English has dominated the academics and
business world making it the most ideal language to learn and speak. In
addition, countries that are superior in many fields are mostly
English-speaking nations. As a result, people who live in deprived situations
prioritize learning a global language, like English, as their ticket to a
better future. Unfortunately, if this continues, native languages that are
spoken by only a handful of individuals will surely disappear in the near
future.
Perhaps it has already been forgotten that a language is
part of its origin’s culture. This is the tool used to help spread and
understand the traditions and beliefs of even the most remote tribes from
the farthest of places. Once a language disappears, so too does the identity of
a certain culture. When this happens, we will probably not completely
comprehend why one person or group behaves in a certain way that they do;
therefore, misunderstanding can be more common.
In conclusion, I certainly think that the world will be less
interesting and unamusing. People will not have anything special to share and
explain to one another when we speak the same tongue. Finally, speaking one language does not
necessarily guarantee that life will be simpler.
